Minister of Environment signs a contract worth 175 million riyals to establish a regional reference laboratory for diagnosing diseases, developing and localizing vaccines in Riyadh

Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen Al-Fadley, signed a contract for the project to establish and design a regional reference veterinary laboratory for diagnosing diseases, developing and localizing vaccines in the Riyadh region, with a specialized national company, at a total cost exceeding 175 million riyals. The laboratory will contribute to conducting applied research and studies that serve the field of animal wealth and health in the Kingdom, and become a regional reference laboratory for the Middle East region at high vital sign levels.

The ministry explained that the establishment of the veterinary laboratory comes within the initiative of the Center for Development and Production of Veterinary Vaccines for Local Pathogenic Strains, and aims to monitor and control the spread of animal diseases, and conduct specialized laboratory tests on most types of diseases; And detecting its causes, determining the sequence of its DNA bases, in addition to conducting research to develop new vaccines specific to the Kingdom from local microbial strains, and increasing the production of various local vaccines, in addition to conducting applied research and studies that serve the field of animal wealth and health in the Kingdom, and working to follow up and update standard methods for detecting animal diseases; According to the standards of the International Organization for Animal Diseases, and also to help adhere to the application of good laboratory practices within the requirements of the quality system.
The ministry pointed out that the establishment of the veterinary laboratory enhances its continuous efforts to develop new vaccines from local disease strains with a higher immune response, compared to global strains, with the aim of localizing the veterinary vaccine industry; Which contributes to controlling and eliminating local diseases, and preserving animal wealth in the Kingdom.
It is noteworthy that the Ministry is keen to develop and preserve animal wealth, by confronting epidemic diseases that threaten animals, in addition to combating common diseases that threaten human health, and supports veterinary laboratories and providing them with cadres of highly qualified specialists, and advanced, highly accurate devices and equipment; To conduct accurate applied research and studies, evaluate locally produced and imported vaccines, and analyze samples for field investigation surveys and applied research on livestock diseases.
