Under the patronage of Mr. Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, the Second Regional Conference for Africa and the Middle East of the World Veterinary Poultry Association was held in Cairo from September 3 to 6, 2024. The conference was hosted and organized by the Egyptian Poultry Veterinary Association.
The conference was inaugurated by Professor Magdy Fathy El-Kadi, Professor of Poultry Diseases and Chairman of the Association, who expressed his appreciation for the extensive participation from Egypt, Arab countries, African countries, and the Middle East, which exceeded 1,000 participants. Distinguished scientists from the United States, Italy, Austria, Germany, the United Kingdom, Morocco, and South Africa also attended to contribute to the conference proceedings.
The conference featured over one hundred scientific papers presented either through oral presentations or posters, in addition to more than 20 scientific lectures. These papers and lectures covered many significant poultry diseases, such as avian influenza, Newcastle disease, and Gumboro disease, which cause severe economic losses in the region.
The conference was titled: "Emerging Poultry Diseases in Africa and the Middle East: Exploration and Tracking." The event lasted for four days, during which participants praised the quality of organization and the richness of scientific content. Discussions were held on modern methods for exploring emerging diseases, early diagnosis, and control measures.
The conference also included a grand dinner held at the historic Salah El-Din Castle, featuring a performance by artist Medhat Saleh, adding a joyful and celebratory atmosphere for the attendees. At the conclusion of the conference, speakers were honored with a conference plaque, and awards were presented for the best research submissions.
The third edition of this conference is scheduled to be hosted in Istanbul, Turkey, in 2026, God willing.
