بط10% increase in duck prices during the current period... What are the reasons?
Duck prices have witnessed a 10% increase during the current period, while turkey prices have stabilized at the same levels as before during the Christmas period, according to what Abdel Aziz El-Sayed, head of the poultry division at the Chamber of Commerce, told Masrawy.

He added that the price of a kilo of live duck is 120 pounds on the farm, and reaches 160 pounds after slaughtering, cleaning, and packaging; while turkey prices range between 110 and 115 pounds on the farm, and reach 145 pounds after slaughtering and packaging.
El-Sayed explained that the main reason behind the increase in duck prices is that it is a seasonal product, as demand for it increases during certain seasons, such as Ramadan, which raises its price slightly, unlike poultry, which witnesses continuous demand throughout the year.
He pointed out that some consumers prefer to buy ducks as an alternative to red meat, due to the price difference, as a 3-kilo duck can be bought for 480 pounds, while a kilo of red meat reaches 450 pounds, which makes ducks an economical option for many.

As for the types of ducks, Al-Sayed explained that there are 3 main types, the "white Pekingese" which is the least expensive, the "Muscovy" which is a little more expensive, and is characterized by its large weights, and the average price of ducks in general for the consumer reaches 165 pounds.

He stressed that the demand for buying ducks increases in the first two weeks of Ramadan, but gradually declines as families begin to prepare for the Eid by buying cakes, biscuits, and children's clothes, which leads to a decrease in demand for it, and thus prices decline again. He stated that the prices of white poultry are 90 pounds on the farm, and reach the consumer at a price of 105 pounds, and the prices of "Sasso" poultry are 102 pounds on the farm, and 115 pounds for the consumer. He added that the prices of free-range local poultry are 125 pounds on the farm, and reach the consumer at a price of 135 pounds, while the prices of eggs are 148 pounds on the farm, and 165 pounds for the consumer.
