The Environment Ministry confirms the existence of an integrated system to ensure the safety and quality of meat in the Kingdom
The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture confirmed its continued efforts to ensure the quality and safety of meat provided to consumers by applying the highest health and preventive standards in slaughterhouses spread throughout the Kingdom, and that these procedures aim to preserve public health and enhance confidence in animal products.
The Ministry indicated that (1450) employees work daily to supervise and directly follow up on inspection processes, ensuring the safety of meat from any diseases that may affect human health, and these processes are carried out accurately, including all stages of slaughter, from the initial inspection stages to the final inspection of meat.
The Environment Ministry revealed that the network of slaughterhouses affiliated with the Ministry amounts to (479) slaughterhouses covering all regions of the Kingdom, making it one of the most important networks of slaughterhouses organized regionally, as the Ministry is keen to ensure that all these facilities adhere to international health requirements and standards, to ensure the provision of safe and high-quality meat.
The Ministry stated that tens of thousands of slaughtered animals are examined daily by specialized teams including veterinarians and trained technicians, with a focus on detecting any signs that may indicate diseases or defects, and slaughtered animals that do not meet the requirements are directed to be destroyed according to sound environmental procedures.
The Environment Ministry noted that these efforts come within its ongoing plan to enhance the infrastructure of the livestock sector and raise the efficiency of operations in slaughterhouses in line with the Ministry's national goals, as this plan includes developing inspection mechanisms and increasing the awareness of workers and consumers of the importance of food safety.
It is worth noting that the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture pays great attention to the livestock sector, as it works to implement health and safety standards at all stages of production and distribution. The Ministry also seeks, through these efforts, to enhance confidence in local products, reduce diseases common to humans and animals, and support sustainable development of the agricultural and livestock sector in the Kingdom in line with the Kingdom's Vision 2030.
