farrouj mazbouhPoultry Syndicate: Consumption Decreases by 25 Percent, Prices Below Cost

The Lebanese Poultry Syndicate, headed by William Boutros, issued a statement announcing that “workers in the poultry sector, including farm owners and producers, have incurred significant losses that have become a heavy burden on the sector as a whole.”

The syndicate revealed that “all production units in the hot areas have completely stopped working, and a large number of farms have been targeted and destroyed.”
The syndicate explained that “in addition to that, local consumption of chicken and eggs has decreased by about 25 percent, in light of the large supply in the sector, which also leads to additional losses, especially since chicken is sold in the market at less than cost price, while the price of eggs is low, such that a “box” of eggs consisting of 12 cartons is sold for about $32.”
In contrast, the union confirmed that "the sector is working with high efficiency," noting that "all producers are now outside the areas of conflict, and that they have not reduced their production levels, which will keep the supply in the market greater than demand," noting that "this issue can continue for months with the presence of a large quantity of fodder with producers."
